Family is one of the oldest institutions in world history. Our family provides the primary foundation for our lives and is the basic unit in which we experience care, love, and support. The Oxford Dictionary defines a "family" as: "a community of people bonded to one another by means of devotion and loyalty.” Indeed, by this definition, we of Highland United Methodist are family.

Celebrating our current centennial theme: "Providing Another Century of Caring", proclaims who we are - a caring family, bonded by devotion and loyalty, and possessing a deep commitment to our community.

The spirit of our first family... of persons who engaged in a labor of love, and whose lives reflected the depth of their caring, has sustained itself to our present family.  The families of yesterday passed on to each succeeding generation the joy of commitment and sacrificial giving, so future generations could know and experience the richness of God's love.

The potential of this church family to express God's love and caring rests with us. The ministry of our church - to the spiritual and physical needs of the families and individuals all around us - is a precious and important responsibility. Down through the years, this labor of love-not simply love of the church, but also a love for Jesus Christ and a love for one another - has enabled our church to remain strong. We have faith that this same love will carry us into the next century, and beyond,

May our shared journey as a church family be a blessing to one another and to the community.  Let us continue the traditions of love, fellowship, and caring, and by the richness of God's grace, may we always experience the joy of family.

Affectionately,

Ron Gaddie, Pastor
