That’s what Jesus of Nazareth instructed his followers to do and that’s what he tells us to do, too. Does that mean we put on sandals, wear a robe and wander the countryside preaching the love of God? Just joking of course. We in the United Methodist denomination don't read the scriptures literally. We interpret Jesus’ words to mean, for starters, that we should work for change in societal structures that marginalize persons, offer loving care to those who are ill, provide shelter for the homeless and food for the hungry.
One of the ways that we at HUMC live out our witness is by participating in “Walking Season”, our project which includes participation in the Wesley Walk, the Louisville AIDS Walk and the Annual Community Hunger Walk. On Sunday, June 13 and June 20, at the morning worship service we presented HUMC jackets to David Herchenrader and Cindy Williams who faithfully “walked the walk” last year.
You can “follow” in the footsteps of Jesus and other disciples by participating in “Walking Season”. Take this opportunity to earn your HUMC Jacket:
