We have an ongoing relationship
with this United Methodist Ministry,
so let’s turn the spotlight on...

University of Louisville Wesley Foundation — a United Methodist Campus Ministry

This lively group is led by the Reverend Alvin Goodwin who describes it as a ministry which connects all to the family of God by means of Christ’s teachings. Not only do students meet for weekly Bible study and weekly fellowship sessions, (Celebration Station) but they also participate in connectional church activities such as the Student Forum of the Methodist Student Movement.

He indicates that to be in ministry to the U of L is to be in partnership with others in the Interfaith Center, which includes the Episcopal ministry, the Lutheran ministry, the Presbyterian ministry, the Catholic ministry and the Hillel Foundation which ministers to Jewish students. The Center sponsors ecumenical worship services, outdoor concerts, cookouts, monthly coffeehouses, discussion series. The United Methodists join in with gusto!

The U of L Wesley Foundation also participates in ” Kids in College”, a mid-July program which gives children ages 4-14 a one-day college experience. Students, faculty members, and local professionals talk to the children about possible careers, making the connection from academics to lifelong success and the importance of healthy lifestyles and choices.

Of course, Reverend Goodwin is available as a counselor for students and staff in crisis and has served as spiritual advisor for the Drama department for projects related to church life and prayer.

HUMC has provided financial support for the Wesley Foundation through UMW and Communion Offerings and that help is appreciated. Rev. Goodwin lists building strong giving from local churches as one of his goals. Attention HUMC members! He also wants to strengthen the volunteer board. How do you see yourself involved in this important ministry?
